• C Part of humen  which were once fully functional and very well develop organs later on become non-functional and lost their significan From evolutionary view vestigial organs are of very much importane They are important evidences for establishing relationship betwe an organism and its ancestors.

 •  Part of humen     are important evidences establishing relationship between an organism and its ancestors These are also known as rudimentary organs.

• M p  roughly 180 such vestigial structures, Fe examples are as under

 {Nietitating membrane}

      ; In human the nictitatine membrane (Plica semilunaris) is found present as third e lid in the inner angle of eye.
            The Plica semilunar corresponds to the nictitating membrane but it completely unstrachable

~ Muscles of external ear ~

          Many mammals such as Dog. Deer, Lion, horse, etcà can move their external ear forcollecting sound waves from the atmosphere. Complete set of muscles for bringing about these movements is present in the external ear of man but non functional.

 ~ Vermiform apopendix ~

       √  The vermiform appendix of man is a rudimentary (remnant) part of the caecum, which is large and well developed functional in other vertebrates, especially in herbivorous.

       √   It helps in the digestion of cellulose. The presence of non functional appendix in man indicates that ancestors of man had the herbivorous dietary components. As the food of man changed, the caecum and appendix were no longer useful.

~ Tail ~

       Early embryo of man possesses an external tail, but it is shed off much before the adulthood is attained. Rarely a child may be born with a short visible tail.

       In adult it is represented by a string of caudal vertebrae, which constitute the coccyx.
